Specs (specs.tar.gz) attached, with output from dmesg, dmidecode, cat
/proc/ide/drivers, and cat /proc/sys/dev/cdrom/info

BIOS Version: 3A23
VGA BIOS Version 70.52.00.16-CH7009

Laptop: Acer Aspire L1313C (AMD Athlon 2200+, 256MB RAM (not 512 as reported),
30GB HDD)

a "cat /<tab>" reports:
    Error 12: Invalid device requested.

A "find /" crunches the CD-ROM for a second, then just appears to hang (have to
power off to exit)
